Paul McCartney on "The Colbert Report" with Stephen Colbert
Paul McCartney was interviewed by Stephen Colbert for his show "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central last night. Paul, as always, is in on the joke. If you missed it...here it is for your viewing pleasure:
Stu Cook of Jackdawg Interview on The Time Machine
Rock and roll legend Stu Cook was a guest on The Time Machine. The bass player for Creedence Clearwater Revival shared with the Maui radio audience his work with John McFee and the late Keith Knudsen. The trio formed a band called Jackdawg but their album was never released. The super cool record label Sonic Past Music has officially released the album after nearly two decades. John McFee is no stranger to The Time Machine as guitarist for Clover, The Doobie Brothers and Southern Pacific. His fellow band member from The Doobie Brothers, Keith Knudsen, drummed some fun into the album's material by pounding those skins and complimenting Stu Cook's tremendous bass playing.

Jeff Boller of The Simple Carnival Interview on The Time Machine
Singer-songwriter Jeff Boller from The Simple Carnival was a guest on The Time Machine. Music was featured from the "Me and My Arrow" EP as a wonderful sampler of what was to come from the album "Girls Aliens Food" which became one of our most played albums for 2008.

Recording artist Kaitlyn Anderson was a guest on The Time Machine. This musical talent brought along her drummer, Eric Kambestad, to join in on the festivities. In addition to featuring music off of her latest release, Kaitlyn spinned songs from other acts as guest DJ on the Hawaiian airwaves.

Jeff Litman Interview and Nick Loren Interview on The Time Machine
Singer-songwriter Jeff Litman was a guest on The Time Machine. The Minneapolis born musician, now based in New York City, released his debut album "Postscript". Jeff's album also features the talents of Diego Merino on trumpet, Meghan Miller on flute, Emily Dufour on cello and The Time Machine's favorite singer-songwriter Kelly Jones performs a wonderful duet on "Maine".
Recording artist Nick Loren is also interviewed on the program. Nick shares his thoughts on his new album "Forever Be Cool" and his career in film over the past decade.

Recording artist Melanie Fontana has been a guest on The Time Machine a few times over the years. This talented artist has graced our airwaves with both touching emotional songs and parodies like "Paris Hilton's Sweet Escape" ala Gwen Stefani. This music video parody takes on Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It). This project was initiated by Gary Craig of Craig and Company, WTIC-FM 96.5 Hartford, CT at www.garycraig.com and www.ticfm.com.
The song was written and recorded by Melanie Fontana. Recorded at Trod Nossel Studios, Wallingford, CT.
The video was filmed by another previous musical guest on The Time Machine - Melissa Otero of Divine Spell, Queens, NY and the video was recorded at Velocity Dance Studios, Wolcott, CT under direction of Kelly Gagliardi. Dancers include: Sara Monroe (choreographer and "husband"), Leigh Shield (floor scrubber), Kelly Gagliardi (floor scrubber), Jen Valerio, Andrea Heller, Janine Sirois - back up dancers and London Doyle (as the mini bride/child).
Singer-songwriter Jim Boggia was a return guest on The Time Machine. This musical talent is always a treat to have on the airwaves. His previous releases "Fidelity Is The Enemy" and "Safe In Sound" have been a staple on our radio playlists. Jim discusses his latest album release "Misadventures In Stereo".

Get ready for a three part podcast. Radio hosts of The Time Machine, Summer Blue and Michael McCartney, handed over the controls to Chewy Marble's founder and singer-songwriter Brian Kassan. Brian took over as guest DJ and played some awesome music for the Maui audience over the FM airwaves.
In addition to discussing the music of Chewy Marble, Brian also shared some demos from his days with Wondermints. This radio broadcast is filled with some special sounds that you're sure to enjoy.

Singer-songwriter Mandy Moore has a new album coming out this May titled "Amanda Leigh". Mike Viola produced her latest album and we've been enjoying playing a few of the songs off of the upcoming release on The Time Machine. In celebration of this wonderful collaboration, we wanted to bring back her last interview on The Time Machine after her album "Wild Hope" was released back in 2007. John Alagia produced the album with Mandy writing songs with Lori McKenna, Deb Talan and Steve Tannen from The Weepies, Chantal Kreviazuk, James Renald, Chris Holmes and Rachael Yamagata. Mandy has been on our playlists since the beginning of her musical career and we look forward to her musical output for years to come.

The Wellingtons remain a favorite band to grace our playlists on The Time Machine. Maui's FM airwaves have had quite a few years of this Aussie group with their previous albums and last year saw the release of "Heading North For The Winter" which landed the band once again on our "Most Played Albums On The Air" for 2008. The line-up includes; drummer Gustav Lindstrom, keyboardist Amy Walters, bassist Kate Goldby and guitar work from both Koji Asano and Zac Anthony. The Time Machine Crew were very honored to have Zac Anthony come on the radio to discuss the band's latest album at the end of their American tour.
Veteran stand up comic Nadine Rajabi returns to The Time Machine to discuss her online series "The Skinny: Fat Free News" with co-host Natasha Leggero.

Smith and Pyle Interview with Shawnee Smith / The Smith Bros. on The Time Machine
Smith may be the most used name when a couple wants to be discreet checking into a motel but it's not the most common name in music. So uncommon that The Time Machine Crew were taken aback by the musical coincidence of having two interviews during the same radio show with both featured Smith among group names. While Morrissey has distanced himself from The Smiths, both Smith & Pyle and The Smith Bros. have embraced it.
Missi Pyle and Shawnee Smith released "It's Okay To Be Happy" in 2008 and the duo's album got a great deal of airplay on The Time Machine. FM listeners on Maui were treated to a wonderful album that should grace your music collection. Shawnee Smith was a guest on the radio show and shared with our audience the fun and the craft of putting this album together.
The Smith Bros. hail out of Ohio and there is not a single Smith in the band. Mike Clark discussed the second album "Restless" from the group.

It's the first day of 2009 and we decided to look back at our most played albums on the air for 2008. Everyone argued over a top ten or one hundred list because there were so many choices. We decided that instead of bickering over different music choices (and trust us...this is what we love to do...bicker about movies and music), we would present to you our most played albums on the air last year. This way there was no wiggle room for critical favorites. The funny part was that after the list was completed, everyone gathered around, smiled and agreed that these albums did fill our hearts and souls musically and that's all that matters in the end.
Mike Viola's album "Lurch" from 2007 along with "She's About To Cross My Mind" from The Red Button, Ken Sharp's "Sonic Crayons" and Mandy Moore's "Wild Hope" from the same year continued with heavy spins into 2008. Still rolling along after over two years in heavy rotation was 2006's "Under The Covers Vol. 1" from Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs which continued to get massive airplay into 2008.
In our earlier post about The Bangles being the most played group for the last twenty-five years, it's interesting to note that our most played artist the last five plus years has been singer-songwriter Rachael Yamagata (who coincidently appeared on the Little Monsters 2006 release "All Together Now" performing "Here Comes The Sun" while the Bangles brought their take on the other Beatles classic "Good Day Sunshine") and if she had not released her double album this past year, the top spot would have gone to Kelly Jones and her third album "SheBANG!", which with it's Bangles' like charm, came out of nowhere and dominated the FM dial since the fall.
Erin McCarly's album "Love, Save The Empty" was released officially on December 30th, 2008 which arrived too late for us to give it a shot at airplay so we look forward to her music throughout this upcoming year as we do Bree Sharp's band project with Donnie D called Beautiful Small Machines that we really relished playing on the air during the final weeks of December.
